Job Description : NPI Engineering Technician
Location : Alajuela, Costa Rica
Department : Engineering – New Product Introduction (NPI)
Reports to : NPI Engineering Manager
Role Summary :
As an NPI Engineering Technician, you will play a key role in supporting the development and introduction of new products, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams and customers. You will contribute to the design, testing, documentation, and validation of electromechanical components and systems, with a strong focus on quality, compliance, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities :
- Develop manufacturing processes for endoscopic imaging devices and other catheter-based imaging technologies.
- Execute complex device assembly techniques such as braiding, reflow, tipping, bonding, extrusion, wire pulling, and articulation. Packaging experience is a plus.
- Collaborate closely with ATL's engineering, quality, production, and sales teams to ensure successful product launches.
- Interface directly with external customers to develop devices within established timelines and manage vendor / supplier relationships.
- Apply strong critical thinking and root cause analysis methodologies to solve technical challenges.
- Map, optimize, and accelerate production processes to meet customer volume forecasts.
- Create detailed manufacturing work instructions and train new operators on process execution.
- Identify and manage potential failure modes through PFMEA.
- Lead process validation efforts by developing and executing DOE, IQ, OQ, and PQ protocols, and preparing final reports.
- Utilize statistical analysis for testing, process capability, sampling plans, and related activities.
- Provide mentorship and technical support to junior engineering staff.
- Ensure product quality and compliance with GMP standards throughout production.
Qualifications & Skills :
Education & Experience :
Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field - or equivalent experience.1–2 years of relevant industrial experience preferred (medical device experience is a plus).Familiarity with electromechanical products, connector design, fine wire termination, and cabling is highly desirable.Understanding of ISO 13485 and 21 CFR 820 is preferred.Knowledge of ASME Y14.5 and Y14.1 standards is a plus.Technical Skills :
Experience in 3D CAD modeling ( SolidWorks desirable ) and 2D drafting aligned with ASME standards.Strong documentation skills for manufacturing processes, validations, and technical reporting.Proficiency in statistical analysis tools and methods for testing, process capability, and sampling ( knowledge of Minitab or similar tools is desirable ).Strong technical writing and documentation skills.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and general computer skills.Ability to interpret and apply engineering principles and industry standards.Machine shop and prototyping skills are a plus.About ATL Technology
